Where oil-free is the requirement
Food and beverage, pharmaceutical, medical, electronics and any process where an oil-contaminated batch is a recall event. In these industries the question is not whether filtration could remove oil, but whether the absence of oil can be documented. Oil-free compression answers that directly because the compression chamber never sees lubricant.
The family in our catalogue
The oil-free range spans small models from 2.2 kW upward through 120 kW class machines, with pressures from low pressure duties through 8 and 10 bar and, in the water-lubricated high pressure variants, 25 to 40 bar. Because dry compression is less efficient per stage, two-stage designs are used where energy matters.
What changes in the installation
| Item | Oil-free implication |
|---|---|
| Inlet air | Cleaner inlet filtration matters more - contamination reaches the compression chamber directly |
| Cooling | Water-cooled variants are common at larger sizes; water quality becomes a maintenance item |
| Dryer | Often an adsorption dryer, because a dew point requirement usually accompanies the purity requirement |
| Materials | Stainless or coated internals on water-lubricated machines - do not substitute parts |
Service discipline
- Inlet filter - replace on schedule; a bypassed or damaged element is a direct route for dirt into the rotors.
- Water treatment - on water-lubricated machines, water quality and treatment are part of the compression system, not a utility detail.
- Seals and bearings - the gearbox and bearing lubrication is separate from the air path and still needs oil analysis.
- Dew point monitoring - the dryer is usually carrying the quality promise; watch it.
